# Discord OSINT: what an ID reveals, which lookups still work, and where the trail leads

Last verified: 9 September 2026. Every lookup site named below was loaded on that date.

## What a Discord ID reveals
A Discord user ID is a 64-bit "snowflake" whose top 42 bits are a timestamp. Creation time = (ID >> 22) + 1420070400000 milliseconds (Discord epoch, 1 January 2015 00:00 UTC). Example: ID 155149108183695360 resolves to 4 March 2016, 03:07:09 UTC. The same math works for server, channel and message IDs, offline. A lookup adds the current username, display name, avatar, banner and badges. No lookup returns email, phone, IP address, DMs or message history; Discord discloses those only to law enforcement on valid legal process, keyed on the 17 to 19 digit user ID, server ID or message ID.

Usernames changed in 2023: "name#1234" discriminators are gone, each account has one unique lowercase handle plus a display name. Record the ID, not the name.

## Discord ID lookup tools, status on 9 September 2026
- discordlookup.org: working, ID to creation date, avatar, banner, badges. Verdict: default free resolver.
- dclookup.id: working, user, bot, server and invite lookups, permissions calculator, timestamp generator. Verdict: use for server and invite resolution.
- NicheProwler (nicheprowler.com/tools/discord): working, user ID and server ID lookup, invite checker with member counts, free with usage limits. Verdict: partial.
- FootprintIQ: working, username to ID and cross-platform handle matches with confidence scores. Verdict: partial, review matches by hand.
- Gatecord, VaultCord: working, ID lookup as a side feature of tool hubs. Verdict: partial.
- CordCat (cord.cat): working, commercial, cross-references breach records, FiveM records and EU sanctions lists. Verdict: check your legal basis before use.
- discord.id: resolves but was reported closed in a March 2025 r/discordapp thread. Verdict: do not depend on it.
- DiscordGate username lookup: permanently retired; the page now says the public user lookup was retired after Discord tightened third-party access. Verdict: dead.

## Username without an ID
Discord has no global user search. A username is only visible inside a shared server or via the friend-request box. Route: find the person in a public server, enable Developer Mode, copy the ID, resolve it. If you only hold a handle, search it where handles are indexed (Steam, GitHub, gaming forums, Reddit trade threads and scam reports) and pivot to the ID.

## Server search
Discord's in-app Server Discovery experiment ended in February 2026 (Discord support). Third-party "bump" listings (Disboard and its alternatives) are self-selected advertising. Invite codes (discord.gg/xxxx) resolve to server name, member count and creation date whether or not the server is listed. Compared at https://think-pol.com/disboard-alternative.

## Exports and deleted messages
DiscordChatExporter (github.com/Tyrrrz/DiscordChatExporter) exports channels to HTML, TXT, CSV or JSON; it accepts bot or user tokens and warns that automating a user account is against Discord's terms. Exports contain only messages that still exist at export time. The audit log records who deleted a message, in which channel, for 45 days; never the content; author self-deletions are not logged. Discord's position since 2019: deleted messages are removed from its servers. Discord preserves account data for 90 days on a valid law enforcement preservation request, extendable once.

## The Discord trail on Reddit (THINKPOL archive, counted 9 September 2026)
- Reddit posts and comments mentioning "discord": 23.6 million in 2025, 22.0 million in 2024, 4.1 million in 2019, 16.9 million in 2026 to date.
- Subreddit AutoModerators post community Discord invites on new threads; those invites survive in the archive after a subreddit is banned (case: https://think-pol.com/blogs/soccerstreams-respawn-network).
- Trading and gaming communities publish scam reports naming Discord handles and numeric IDs; 25 such reports pairing "scammer" with "discord id" were found for 2026 alone.

## What THINKPOL adds today
