Unddit and Removeddit Are Dead. Here Is What Happened and What Works Now

Unddit and Removeddit are dead. Both were front ends over Pushshift, and Reddit cut Pushshift's public access in 2023. No backend, no site. What works now depends on whether the content was removed by a moderator or deleted by its author.

If you just typed "unddit" or "removeddit" into Google out of habit, you are not alone. Those two brand names still pull 6,600 and 2,900 US searches a month respectively, three years after both tools stopped working. What was Removeddit?

Removeddit launched around 2017 with a dead-simple idea: swap "reddit" for "removeddit" in any thread URL and see the page as it was before deletions. Red highlighting meant a moderator removed it. Blue meant the author deleted it.

Removeddit did not archive anything itself. It was a thin front end that compared two sources in real time: Reddit's live API on one side, Pushshift on the other. Pushshift was the actual archive, a research project that continuously ingested Reddit's public firehose and let anyone query it. Removeddit diffed the two and coloured the differences.

That architecture is the most important fact in this story. Removeddit owned no data. It rented its memory from Pushshift.

What happened to Unddit?

Removeddit's maintainer stopped keeping up with Reddit and Pushshift API changes, and by late 2020 the site was breaking regularly. Another developer forked the concept and launched Unddit, same red-and-blue interface, same URL-swap trick. For a couple of years, Unddit was the tool everyone actually meant when they said "removeddit".

Unddit inherited the architecture along with the user base: a thin front end, totally dependent on Pushshift for the historical side of the diff.

In April 2023, Reddit announced sweeping API restrictions ahead of its IPO. In May 2023, it formally cut Pushshift's access. Pushshift as a public, openly queryable service ended, and every tool built on it lost its backend the same day. Unddit and Removeddit went from useful to decorative overnight. Neither ever came back.

Why a front end with no backend cannot come back

People keep asking when Unddit will be fixed. The honest answer is never.

The dependency chain was: Reddit firehose, then Pushshift ingesting and storing it, then Unddit or Removeddit querying Pushshift at page load. The value was never in the front end. Anyone can rebuild a red-and-blue diff page in a weekend. The value was in the archive behind it. Reddit did not break the websites. It confiscated the memory they were reading from.

So "fixing" Unddit would mean rebuilding Pushshift: years of retroactive data that no longer exists publicly, plus ongoing ingestion that Reddit now blocks. A volunteer front-end developer cannot do that. This is why every "Unddit is back!" post ends in disappointment.

Successor archives exist, but they are partial. PullPush.io offers a Pushshift-style API, community run, with thin coverage after 2023. The domains have moved on, and one of them is now a casino

Three years is a long time in domain names. When we checked on 29 July 2026, unddit.com no longer resolved at all: no DNS record, nothing to connect to. The same was true of camas.unddit.com, the search front end that lived on the same domain. Those are not broken sites. They are absences.

Removeddit.com is the one to watch, because it does still resolve and it does still return a page. That page is an online casino affiliate site, headlined "Best Ontario Online Casinos" and last updated on 22 July 2026. The domain has been repurposed, and it now monetises the 2,900 people a month who arrive still looking for a deleted-comment viewer.

This is worth being blunt about. Roughly nine thousand searches a month across the two brand names now lead either to nothing or to gambling ads, and a good number of "best tools to see deleted Reddit posts" articles still link straight to removeddit.com without having checked. If a listicle sends you there in 2026, it was not tested.

The same caution applies to the clones and mirrors that surface when you search the brand names. Where one loads and returns content, it is serving pre-2023 Pushshift snapshots or partial PullPush data. A mirror can show you a deleted comment from 2019 and silently return nothing for a thread from last month, without telling you the difference. For casual curiosity that is a nuisance. For an investigation it is dangerous, because an empty result reads as "this content never existed" when the truth is "this archive stopped listening three years ago". Treat any Unddit lookalike as a museum, not a live tool.

Why Reveddit survived when the others died

Reveddit is routinely listed alongside Unddit, but it is a different kind of tool, and that is exactly why it still works.

Reveddit never depended on Pushshift. It reads Reddit's own live API and exploits a quirk in how Reddit handles moderator removals: when a moderator removes your comment, Reddit hides it from the thread but often still serves the body through your user profile endpoint. Reveddit compares those views and shows you what moderators removed. Because its dependency is Reddit itself, the 2023 Pushshift cut-off did not touch it.

The trade-off is fundamental. Reveddit recovers a different class of content:

• Moderator-removed content: often recoverable live, because the body still exists in Reddit's API. Reveddit's territory.

• Author-deleted content: Reddit overwrites the body. No live tool can retrieve it. Only an archive that captured it while public can return it.

This distinction, removal versus deletion, is the axis the whole tool ecosystem turns on. Reveddit is also not historical: it shows current state, not what a thread looked like on a given date. Recovering your own deleted content versus investigating someone else's

These are different problems. The internet keeps giving one answer for both.

If you are recovering your own content: check your Reddit profile first, since moderator-removed items often still appear there even though other users cannot see them. Run your username through Reveddit to see what moderators removed. If you deleted the content yourself, Reddit's API will not return it, full stop, and your options narrow to archives: the Wayback Machine as a long shot, PullPush for older material when it is answering, or a preserved copy in a private archive. Google cache is not an option any more, Google retired it in 2024, whatever the older guides still say. Everything these tools read was public. None of them needs your account.

If you are investigating someone else's content: profile tricks do not apply, and live tools only get you the moderator-removed slice. The next tightening: the Old Reddit login wall

The 2023 Pushshift cut-off was not a one-off. It was the start of a policy direction, and it is still moving.

On 30 June 2026, Reddit put a login wall on Old Reddit. The old.reddit.com interface was the last way to browse Reddit anonymously at scale, and it was quietly load-bearing for the scrapers, researchers and archive projects that had survived 2023. The lesson of Unddit, three years on: tools that read live data inherit every future restriction. Only content captured while it was public stays recoverable, and the capture window has been narrowing since 2023.

Permanently. Unddit was a front end over Pushshift, and Reddit revoked Pushshift's API access in May 2023. The archive it queried no longer accepts public queries, so there is nothing left to fix. Does Reveddit still work in 2026?

Yes. Reveddit reads Reddit's live API rather than Pushshift, so the 2023 cut-off did not affect it. It shows moderator-removed content, which Reddit often still serves through user profile endpoints. It cannot show author-deleted content, because Reddit overwrites those bodies, and it is not historical: it reflects current state only.

How can I see deleted Reddit posts now?

It depends who deleted them. Moderator-removed content is often retrievable live through Reveddit or the author's own profile. Author-deleted content only exists in archives that captured it while public: PullPush for pre-2023 material, or THINKPOL's archive, which covers 30 billion posts and comments from 2005 onward, including post-2023.

Can I recover my own deleted Reddit comments?

If a moderator removed them, yes, check your profile or run your username through Reveddit. If you deleted them yourself, Reddit's API returns nothing, and recovery depends on an archive having captured them first. Try the Wayback Machine as a long shot, then archive lookups. Google cache is gone, retired in 2024. Never hand your Reddit password to any recovery tool; none needs it.

What was Pushshift and why did Reddit block it?
