Reddit undelete: there is no button, only copies.

Reddit gives you no way to undo a deletion, and no support ticket will restore one. When you delete a post or comment, Reddit overwrites the body with "[deleted]" in the database that serves the site and the API. The old text is not moved to a bin you can open. From Reddit's side it is gone, and that is true whether you deleted it a minute ago or in 2017.

So "undelete" is the wrong mental model. Nothing reaches back into Reddit and pulls the text out. Every method that works does the same thing: it finds a copy that something else made while the post was still public. Recovery is a question of who was watching at the time, not of what you do now.

The single most useful distinction in this whole subject. "[removed]" means a moderator or Reddit's own filters took the content down. The author's text often still exists on Reddit's side, which is why a live tool can surface it. "[deleted]" means the author removed it, and the text is overwritten everywhere.

That is why Reveddit works for the first case and can never work for the second, no matter how often people ask for it. If the page you are looking at says "[removed]", try a live tool first. If it says "[deleted]", skip straight to an archive: a live tool has nothing to read.

Unddit and Removeddit are the two names most people mean by a Reddit undelete tool. Both were front-ends on Pushshift, and both stopped working when Reddit cut off the Pushshift feed in 2023. PullPush reimplements the old Pushshift API and is the closest thing to a free successor. It genuinely works, with two caveats: coverage is uneven after 2023, and rate limits make it awkward for anything beyond a few lookups. Details on the Pushshift alternative page.

The Wayback Machine is the forgotten option and costs nothing to try. It only holds a page if somebody archived that exact URL before the deletion, so it fails most of the time, but when it hits you get a timestamped capture, which is the strongest form of the three for evidence.

1. Read what the placeholder says. "[removed]" sends you to a live tool. "[deleted]" sends you to an archive. Getting this wrong is the most common reason people conclude that recovery is impossible.

2. Search by username, not by URL. A thread URL only finds that thread. An account lookup returns everything that account posted that was captured, including content in threads you did not know about. 3. Search the phrasing, then the replies. If you remember any distinctive wording, search the text itself. Then read the surviving replies: people quote what they are answering, so a deleted comment can often be reconstructed from the thread around it even when no capture exists.

4. Capture whatever you recover. A screenshot with a visible timestamp, or the live URL pushed into the Wayback Machine while it still resolves. A tool gives you content. Your own capture gives you something you can show someone else later.

A suspended, renamed or fully deleted account is the hardest version of this problem, because the live API returns nothing at all and every real-time tool goes dark at once. People often read that emptiness as proof that the account never posted much.

It is not. The archive layer is indexed by author at the moment of capture, so a deleted account's history is still queryable even though the profile no longer exists.
