Reveddit alternative: what Reveddit shows, and what it cannot.

Yes. Unlike Removeddit and Unddit, Reveddit survived Reddit's 2023 API lockdown, and it is still actively maintained. The reason it survived is also the reason it has a hard ceiling: it never depended on Pushshift. It reads Reddit's own live API and compares what is publicly visible with what the platform still exposes about a piece of content, which reveals moderator removals without needing an archive at all.

Credit where it is due: Reveddit is free, it respects your privacy, it does not ask for your Reddit credentials, and for the specific job of showing which of your comments a moderator quietly removed, nothing does it better. If that is your question, stop reading and go use it.

Reveddit cannot recover content that its author deleted. This is not a bug or a missing feature, it follows from the design: when a user deletes their own comment, Reddit overwrites the body with "[deleted]" everywhere, including in the API Reveddit reads. There is nothing left for a live tool to find, however fast it queries.

The distinction matters more than it sounds. "[removed]" means a moderator or Reddit acted, and Reveddit handles it. "[deleted]" means the author acted, and only a copy captured before the deletion can bring it back. In investigation work the author deletions are usually the interesting ones: people erase their own posts when they change their mind, when they realise they said too much, or when an account is about to be looked at.

The second ceiling is time. Reveddit works from the live platform, so its view is anchored to what Reddit still serves today. It is not a historical archive, and it cannot answer "what did this account post in 2017" once that content is gone.

Because Reveddit queries Reddit in real time, its availability is tied to Reddit's. The "unable to connect to Reddit" error usually means Reddit's API is rate limiting or briefly refusing the request, not that Reveddit is broken. Waiting and retrying often resolves it.

Two other cases look like a failure and are not. If a profile returns nothing, the account may have been suspended or renamed, in which case the live API has nothing to offer and only an archive will. And if the page loads but the comments still read "[deleted]", you have hit the structural limit above rather than an outage: the author removed them.

Run Reveddit first when you have a thread or a profile and the content is recent. It costs nothing and it answers the moderator-removal case immediately.

If it returns "[deleted]", an empty profile, or nothing at all, switch to archive search on the username. Then widen: search the distinctive phrases and the replies quoting the missing comment, since surviving replies frequently reconstruct deleted content that was captured imperfectly.
